I’ve only been back in the office full time for two weeks now and I’m starting to miss work from home. I miss the freedom it gave me. I had to ability to run an errand, move around the house, work outside, ride my bike while listening to a call, and I definitely miss having my pups right next to me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed it’s nice to pick a few things to zone in on and so I’ve got five things I’m choosing to focus on this month. They range from healthy, mental, spiritual, and happy!
Here are the 5 things I’m choosing to focus on this month:
#1 – get back into a routine
I really haven’t had a solid routine in over a year. Back in February 2020 I had gotten into a routine of early morning workouts, working, and generally having my life in some sort of order. Then of course in March 2020 the world shut down and all my plans went to sh*t. I’m trying to focus on getting back into some resemblance of a routine this month. I’ve got a loose daily plan that I’m going to attempt to stick to and see if that makes me going back to the office easier.
#2 – write my prayers down
Writing notes/lists has always been something I gravitate to and so I decided to try writing my prayers down. I’ve been struggling with devotional time lately and I thought that turning it into lists would maybe add something new to my prayer time. We’ll see how it goes.
#3 – drinking 100oz of water
I feel like this is always something I have to focus on, so maybe this one is more of a ‘re’focus. Lately, I have been getting headaches more often and I want to make sure that I’m hydrated for not only that reason but many more. I bought a water bottle on amazon and it’s huge, I mean laughably ginormous, but maybe it will help? It will at least be a weights workout carrying it around in the morning!
#4 – reading for 15 minutes
In high school and college I used to read all the time. All. The. Time. I would finish a book in a day and then start another but after law school I just didn’t find the joy in it any more. I miss that so I figured working reading time back into my day would only be a good thing. I’m going to try and carry my book in my work tote so I can read at lunch if I can or at least have the option to do so. I also think doing something I used to love will be a “happy” thing for me to focus on this month.
#5 – move
My office is doing a step challenge this month and so I am going to need to be on my game to win or at least not get last place. I’ve downloaded the Move app to see if that will remind me to get up and move every hour. I know my watch will tell me if I haven’t moved but when I hit that in the beginning of the hour I’d still like a reminder at the end of the hour to get my booty moving. I also made sure I have my workout clothes at work so I can get back in my walks at lunch groove.

Fellow lawyer here. We have similar goals! I find it helpful to string together a bunch of goals in a single time frame. For example, your new routine could be setting aside 30 minutes every morning to focus on you, which consists of drinking 10 oz of water, writing down your prayers, drinking another 10 oz, reading for 15 min, and then drinking another 10 oz. That hits like 3.5 goals in one go before you even start your day! I’m currently pumping milk for a little one so I’m using my 20 minute of pump time every morning to drink more water (seriously contemplating getting a bottle like yours), read the e-books I have checked out, and work on a few other personal goals. Good luck!

I love this idea! I might have to do that at lunch or right after work because my commute is an hour and I’m afraid I might have to make a pit stop if I drink that much water in the morning hahaha!
