I’ll be honest I did not want to participate in this sweater vest trend. Every time I heard the phrase sweater vest I had visions of Urkel on Family Matters or Chandler in the early seasons of Friends. Then I decided to order an understated sweater vest and try just TRY it out to see if they were as awkwardly 90’s as I thought. Turns out I was wrong.
Well kind of wrong. The sweater vest I choose isn’t exactly something that would be hanging in Chandler’s tiny NYC closet. It’s got a turtleneck, which you know I love, is one color without any patterns, and has a longer length. I haven’t added a blouse under the sweater vest yet but I am determined to try it one day – watch my instagram stories for my Work #OOTDs to see if I actually follow through (and keep me honest)!
Did I order another sweater vest on Black Friday to see if I can make this sweater vest trend last longer than my lovely grey tunic turtleneck sweater vest. My new one is bright pink so it’s a bit out of the norm for me but I’m thinking positive!

Other ways to keep the sweater vest trend current is to throw it over a dress and belt it. Or if you add a blouse under the sweater vest try one with ruffles at the wrists or a large bow you can tie at the neck. I’d stay away from any crazy prints or colors – it gets easy to stray into 90s territory. Or you can embrace Cher from Clueless and go for the school girl look.
So what do you think? Is this a trend you would try?
