Working in silence doesn’t fly for me; I have to have something playing in the background. If John Williams wants to create a soundtrack for my life I’d appreciate it, but until then I’ve compiled the best music to work to.
The first day I worked from home last month was crazy because I didn’t have my usual rhythm and it was so quiet. My mom was in the other room but I didn’t want to interrupt her constant Zoom calls with my music so I sat there in silence. Noooooo – worst decision!
So in addition to finally setting up my temporary home office I made sure I had my wireless headphones set for the next day, thank goodness I brought them home with me from the office, and I got my work playlists going again. I have a backup pair of wired headphones in case I haven’t charged my wireless ones or in case I have to listen to something on my work desktop.
At the office I either use my headphones or a bluetooth speaker. With the speaker I can put my music through that. If I didn’t have a legit office with walls I would stick to my headphones.
When I’m out of the courtroom I’m either drafting motions or reading through files so my playlist usually consists of music that doesn’t have lyrics. The best music to work to is obviously going to be personal preferences but I think non lyric music is a fantastic choice because it’s going to compliment your work not be a detriment to it. So what is on my playlist?
The Best Music to Work to:
Classic Music: I have an album called Mozart for your Mind and it’s great! There is also one called the Most Essential Classical Pieces for your Mind. You can google or search those on iTunes and a multitude of choices come up.
Soundtracks: my favorite soundtracks to work to are Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, The Tudors, King Arthur, Braveheart, Harry Potter, Darkest Hour, and Anna Karenina.
Musical Covers: check out The Piano Guys, they take current songs like Something Just Like This or All of Me and make them just instrumental on the piano. All of their albums are fantastic!
Those choices are the best music to work to but if you can’t work to music but still need some background noise try Coffivity. It’s a great website and app that simulates a coffee shop with the background noise of people having conversations etc.
