When starting this segment, a twist on the horrific exam every practicing lawyer must take, I knew May had to be margaritas. I knew it. So here it is, the best margarita recipe. Favorite part? No store mixes here.
On maybe my second or third visit to TM’s Dad’s house these margaritas were made… I had one and a half and fell asleep on the drive home. TM laughed so hard when he was waking me up. TM’s dad, Rob, uses store bought mix which is totally fine but I wanted to experiment with a homemade mix. I knew I wanted there to be more than just lime juice; I need a little dimension in my drinks. So I pulled out my juicer and started juicing! PS this juicer is the handiest kitchen gadget; great for adding citrus to your water too!
This weekend I’m going to mix up a big batch of this margarita mix and gift it to TM’s dad so we shall see how it goes down… my bet is on fabulous!
Best Margarita Recipe
FYI if you’re making these for more than two people (or you can put them back then make a double batch of the mix.) Also make sure that your lemons and limes are the same size. The lemons I had were quite larger than the limes so I needed to make sure that I had a little more lime juice than the lemon juice.
Homemade Margarita Mix
Juice of 2 large oranges
Juice of 10 lemons
Juice of 12 limes
2 cups each of sugar and water, mix over heat until dissolved
Rob’s Margarita’s (single)
2 shots tequila
1 shot grand marnier
3/4 – 1 cup marg mix
garnish: limes, kosher salt, jalapeño for spice
Rob’s Margarita’s (pitcher)
2.5 cups tequila
1.5 cups grand marnier
5-6 cups marg mix
garnish: limes, kosher salt, jalapeño for spice
I had some of the chili lime salt from Trader Joe’s that I rimmed my glasses in. I’m not a huge fan of salt on the rim so the chili lime gives it a nice kick without tasting like I just licked a salt block. This really is the best margarita recipe I’ve found and it’s just in time for Cinco de Mayo next week or for any Taco Tuesday… or any day! See more Bar recipes!
