You know the expression if the shoe fits buy it in every color? I subscribe to that in the extreme. If the shoe fits, is comfortable, and is office appropriate then buy every color and buy an extra pair of black ones for when the company changes the style or discontinues them. But I also think the phrase should be applied to all the basics of work wear: pants, blazers, and pencil skirts.

I have this J Crew pencil in four colors and one print. I know they fit and they hold up after countless wears and runs to the dry cleaner. They keep their color and I swear they repel dog hair. I’ve spilled water and my bagged lunch on these babies and they still look brand new.

If J Crew ever decides to discontinue these (please fashion gods don’t let that happen) I will probably purchase another set of colors and an extra extra black one.
