Last month I shared how we had sort of an unconventional way of handling our engagement photos. Well true to Katherine form I did other things with a twist as well. I knew I wanted a monogram but I honestly didn’t want it to be a monogram; you know initials etc. I still wanted something that we could make our wedding ‘brand’ our ‘logo,’ a piece of art that meant something to us.
Well we ended up working with Maggie B French (you need to check out her artwork – it’s incredible) to create this amazing piece of art for our wedding.
Here’s the backstory of the design – TM and I went on a trip to Colorado early in our relationship. We spent our vacation hiking and we credit that trip as a time that really strengthened our relationship. We got to the top of one hike and looked down on what seemed like a never ending view of evergreen trees. We saw a trio of trees that just seemed…perfect. During this vacation I got it into my head that we should get matching tattoos. I have ZERO idea how that bee got in my bonnet but I would not let it go! TM got so annoyed that he finally agreed to it but the conditions were that I had to make all the arrangements and I had to go first. He was betting on me chickening out – boy was he wrong! I made all the appointments and when we walked in my knees got really weak. TM likes to describe my complexion as white as a sheet of paper. I didn’t flinch. Okay I definitely flinched; lots of flinching happened but we both walked out with matching tattoos. Okay seriously, writing that makes me kinda want to hide under a rock ha!
Anyway, I contacted Maggie since I had seen her designs before and I knew that her artwork would be able to take our tattoos and turn them into a beautiful watercolor sketch that we could use for our wedding. After a few emails back and forth, a video conference, and more emails, we had a final design. When I explained to Maggie what we thought we might use the design for she actually had the idea of creating the basic design and then having secondary designs that added more art or wording. We have a basic line sketch, then one with color, then added mountains, then we have ones with names and our wedding date. The colors we used are our wording colors so it compliments everything in our wedding!
We used this design on the detail portion of our Save the Dates and I plan on using this design for our invitations, seating chart, programs, plastic party cups, and more! We also plan on getting a nice print and putting it up in our home. I absolutely love our own special wedding logo and the fact it can be used for so many things not only for our wedding itself but after. I like to think of it as our logo, not just our wedding logo!
If you want to spend a few minutes scrolling through Maggie’s instagram page it will seriously lower your stress level; everything is beautiful and soothing.
