Tonal dressing at the office is a new thing for me. Honestly, tonal dressing in general is a new thing for me. I remember my mom would always tell me – make sure your colors match! But tonal dressing is all over fashion magazines and worn by fashionistas and it’s worth it to see how to make it office appropriate.
Jane’s advice was correct in part; you don’t want your colors to be a shade off, they need to be more than just one shade off. This isn’t a sweater you washed once and it faded slightly tonal dressing. It’s planned “un-matching.” Weird, right? But it works. Pick a color and wear all the colors in the family.
I tend to keep textures to a minimum, one maybe two different textures. Stay away from sequins and leather – we might be mixing tones but we still need to stay away from looking like you fell into a dress up closet.
Here are some ideas for different color office appropriate tonal dressing:
Pink
Blue
Purple
Red
Green
If you want to go all out and add in shoes and accessories in the same color family go for it! Think headbands, totes, shoes, hair accessories, and jewelry. If you’re just dipping your foot in then go nude with your shoes and simple with your accessories.
