For about two years I’ve created capsule wardrobes for the year. Starting with a base capsule and then adding to it each season: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. But I figured there are only so many times I can give you a similar capsule wardrobe.
This isn’t to say those capsule wardrobes aren’t useful, they are a wonderful place to start building your work wardrobe or an easy way to edit your closet down if you’re looking to live more simply. But I’ve decided to go in a different way for my capsule wardrobe posts for a while.
I really love all the 3 x 3 wardrobes that have been popping up lately. If you haven’t seen them you take three tops, three pants, and three pairs of shoes and you try to create as many outfits you can. You have the ability to add “extras” like accessories or sometimes people also add jackets. I wanted to riff off that challenge for these capsule wardrobes.
So now we’ve got a 5 x 3 Monthly Capsule. Five categories, three of each: blazers/jackets, solid tops, printed tops, bottoms, and dresses. My thought is that we really cannot only have three tops because no one is going to do laundry that many times during the week – come on right? But we could stretch to six tops for the month. So each month I’ve going to create a capsule wardrobe for that month with those 15 pieces. Feel free to switch up the outfits with shoes and accessories!
If you sign up for my workwear capsule emails you get a month’s worth of non repeating outfits laid out on a calendar for you. Is this a shameless plug for you to sign up for my emails? Yes, yes it is. : ) That monthly plan comes with a visual calendar and a calendar with what I like to call outfit math for each day, so you can shop your own closet too!
I hope you like this new way of creating capsule wardrobes; it feels like a fun way to freshen it up and get creative! Let me know what you think in the comments!
