You’ve probably got video conference after video conference right now and it doesn’t matter if you’re on with your boss or your team you don’t want to look like you just rolled out of bed. Here’s how to look professional on video chat.
There are a few easy ways to look professional AND be comfortable and they don’t cost you anything. I would be that you have everything in your closet that you need to up your Zoom game. If you want to see some comfortable picks or just want new WFH lounge wear I’ve got you covered at the bottom of the post.
Look Professional on Video Chat in Three Simple Ways
Toss a Blazer On
If you throw a blazer on it can make almost anything look professional. I tossed one over this tee shirt that says Make Your Mark and I wore it while video chatting with my boss. On my first work from home day I was still in my pajamas (rookie mistake) and my boss texted me that he wanted to video chat. Thank God I got that heads up because it only took five seconds to grab a blazer from my closet and voila – professional Katherine.
Pick your Fabrics
This grey sweater blazer is amazing. It looks solid on screen but it feels as if your blazer just gave you a hug. Also, if you throw it over a workout tank it’s even MORE comfortable! The pink puff sleeve top I’m wearing below is also a sweatshirt material and doesn’t look like it at all. If you’re stuck at home and in fabrics that are constricting it’s just going to make you more uncomfortable.
Statement Accessories
Earrings you can see on the video chat, a silk or tweed headband, a standout hair clip makes your counterpart feel as if you actually got ready for a meeting today. While statement earrings might be too much for a regular day at your office try them on a video chat; they add a little something extra. A headband hides dirty hair so if you’re on an unintentional shower strike toss one on before you check in with your boss and watch your dirty hair live another day.
Yall, even though you can’t see it in these photos I’m wearing workout capris on the bottom in every single one of these photos. Jeans might have happened on day 1 of work from home but they definitely aren’t happening again. Stick with leggings – they’re your every day work from home pants now. Embrace it.
If you’re just here for the lounge wear it’s right here:
Bottom line you can be comfortable AND look professional while on video chat. So get your boss on the screen and boost your career while looking professional and staying comfortable.
