Wednesday watching the Inauguration of 46 I felt like I was already hyped up but then, when I was watching outfit after outfit that I loved on walk by, my excitement grew. The COLORS, the SUITS, the EDUCATION on these women – be still my heart! Inauguration fashion is like the United States’ version of a Royal Wedding.
Let’s jump in shall we? While us normal people can’t afford the price tags on these outfits (although if I was going to be on a national stage I’d be pulling extra on call weekends to pay for the fashion Natalie Biden brought) I’ve rounded up some affordable options. And yes, I will be calling everyone by their first names while discussing inauguration fashion, deal with it.
Madame VP Kamala & Dr. Jill
The coats! The colors! The pearls! The matching gloves! Madame VP Kamala’s coat is my favorite but Dr. Biden’s gloves are screaming at me, I love them, I want them.
Laura
How cute are these two! Laura is coming in classic first lady with the pearls and contrasting coat and dress combo. She is saying ‘been here, done this, I know what I’m doing.’ Also, I believe attention needs to be paid for President Bush’s tie and how they perfectly coordinate. I love it.
Secretary Hillary
You can read more about what the theme of purple means here and both Madame VP Kamala and Secretary Clinton wore it in full. While I wasn’t loving her boots with this purple suit, I love this ruffle! President Clinton needed to match a la President Bush.
Michelle
Bow down. This was a statement look and tbh we don’t deserve Michelle’s fashion. I would wear this in a courthouse, in fact I’m debating hitting purchase on items to recreate this look for the office right now. And by debating I mean it’s happening. THIS is how you monotone color dress.
Jennifer
Jenny from the Capital. I’m not a huge fan of all white outfits, yes yes I understand its in honor of suffragettes but I still am not a fan. It also doesn’t help that I think I look like crap in white… Jennifer pulls this off though. It’s like Hillary’s look but in white.
Ella
Ella is killing this look. The plaid, embellished shoulders, peter pan collar, and large button/brooch with a HEADBAND. This is the look Blair Waldorf and Dan Humphrey’s child would have worn.
Natalie
ON WEDNESDAYS WE WEAR PINK. Natalie just became the star of the 2021 reboot of Mean Girls, except we’re calling it Nice Girls or maybe Nice Bidens. Knee high boots on a national stage in a pink coat – YAS.
Amanda
Amanda is color blocking like a pro! She’s also rocking one of the 2021 Pantone Colors – Illuminating. I love the cut of this coat on her, she looks polished and on point!
Dr. Jill is giving me major Jackie Kennedy and Laura Bush Frist Lady vibes and I love it. Her Inauguration fashion choices were so chic and classic. Madame VP Kamala brings the workwear twist that I loved. Her style says she knows how to power dress and she uses that knowledge!
I might catch hate for this but I believe Melania Trump was an incredible dresser. She was a fashionable first lady and had classic choices. I also think the caftan she changed into to land in Florida was beautiful. It’s exactly what I would change in to if I was taking my first day off in four years and was ready for a cocktail. She was in FLATS for heaven’s sake, I’ve never found her more relatable.
