I have a love hate relationship with pleated skirts. Every time I see one I get super excited; I love the way they fall, twist, look, move, and add texture to a work outfit. Then I try them on and I think OH HELLO HIPS COULD YOU BE ANY MORE OBVIOUS?!
Well screw it. Give me all the pleated skirts. And give me all the tacos. This isn’t a 2 on 1 date on the Bachelor; I’m not choosing between you two.
You all know my love for pencil skirts but now I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite pleated skirts. I tend to lean toward the ones that have a bit more weight to them so they don’t necessarily float like a ballerina during work hours but I’ve included some floaty ones too. Read on for how to style pleated skirts at the office.
Pairing these pleated skirts depends on the type of workplace you’re in:
Casual
Grab a regular t-shirt and a blazer if you’d prefer more comfortable or go with a light sweater and an oversized belt. Maybe you could toss some sneaks under it?
Creative
Go wild. I want to see what you’ve got in store. Maybe a big bold print or more monochrome if you want a sleek look. You can definitely get away with sneakers and I’m jealous.
Conservative
Put some sleeves on it and stay with thin layers like I did. These 3/4 sleeve shirts are amazing. They look clean and classic on their own and don’t bulk up under a blazer.
Professional
Keep it sleek and simple. A silk blouse or shell with a blazer tops it off nicely. Add a belt if you want more definition.
When you’re thinking about how to style pleated skirts at the office you want to keep in mind the fabric choice. I’d stay away from the floaty princess skirts if you’re in a professional or conservative office. Casual and Creative office goers you’ve got the full spectrum!
