Apparently you’re not someone until you drape your coat on your shoulders and skip putting your arms in the sleeves… here’s a picture of me doing it… am I cool now?
So seriously what is wrong with arm holes? They’re functional, give you the ability to drive properly, and offer extra warmth. It’s as if sleeves are the good guys in this situation – they’re the best choice for you but you want the bad boys, the ones that will keep you locked down and keep you from being independent. That metaphor worked yall; I’m pretty proud of myself for that one.
I totally get why this is a trend – it looks dang good in a photo, shows off your outfit, and it makes you look super important. This look says: I don’t need to reach anything up high. I don’t need to drive myself anywhere. I don’t need to open doors for myself. I don’t need to do anything other than stand here and look amazing.
Every time I see this happening I always think of that scene in The Office where Kelly and Dwight are talking about wearing cell phones in those holsters:
I definitely thought I was Kelly in this situation… JUST PUT YOUR ARMS IN THE SLEEVES. But now I’m thinking I might be Dwight…
This trend just isn’t practical. While taking these photos I’m pretty sure I had to grab this coat multiple times to keep it from falling off my shoulders and trying to juggle coffee and a bag and keep my hair out of my eyes – forget it.
Is this another trend like wearing sunglasses inside? Where it’s “cool” to do it but at the same time you’re like it’s so dark in here I can’t see my keyboard… right?
