The white blouse, a staple in everyone’s closet. When building their work wardrobe most people buy a starchy button down and think they’re going to wear that all the time. Please for the love of everything don’t do that. Look through these five while blouses every woman needs for the office. Yes yes, there’s a button down but I promise you’ll like these choices way better for your work wardrobe than the starchy mcstarch shirt.

The Classic One: you need a button down for the more professional offices so you need to make sure you get one in a tech fabric or silk. They’ll keep you cool when the inevitable mansplaining happens. But seriously go for a fabric that doesn’t need ironing and starch. It’s going to lay so much better, it will feel better, and honestly you don’t need to starch! My favorite is this one!
The Untucked One: for when you don’t want to have to work tuck in your blouse but you can’t take a vacation day. These office white blouses are designed to be worn untucked. The intent is very important here because I cannot tell you how many times people leave their blouses untucked when they should be tucked it and it looks so sloppy. These are not that!
The Layering One: add these under sweaters (or anything else) where you want a collar but not the bulk of sleeves. I’m not a fan of dickey’s (the piece that is only the collar and chest piece) I personally think they’re uncomfortable and make your top clothing article lay weird. These are designed to be layered over and add dimension to any outfit. My favorite is this one!

The Tie One: you’ll reach for this blouse over and over, they look great under blazers and cardigans. The simple tie / bow is one of my favorite blouses to wear. Very similar to the feminine one below but it deserved it’s own spot in your closet. depending on the neckline you don’t need a necklace and only small earrings. When describing the blouse it can seem blah but it packs a punch! My favorite is this one!
The Feminine One: it has small sweet details but still says ‘I do more work than you.’ This white blouse is the feminine version of the men’s staple button down for the office, but that doesn’t mean it has to be long sleeve.

Shells are another important white blouse to have but since they can be under the layering heading or tie neck or feminine etc I didn’t add them into the above paragraphs. But I’ve rounded up some easy shells for those days you need to be very simple, need to layer, but don’t want the bulk or a collar.
When you’re building your work wardrobe think about your office and it’s dress code. If you’re in an office that leans more casual maybe you don’t start with the button down but you get the layering one and the untucked one. If you’re in an office that leans more business professional then definitely grab the button down and maybe leave the untucked one for last. Be smart when you build your stock of white blouses for the office and you’ll always have outfits to wear to work.
