I’ll admit it, I got sucked in my those Instagram and Pinterest Ads. The workwear slacks that are just as good, dare I say fake gasp, better than Spanx? Yeah, I was intrigued. Then I saw more about their affordable cashmere sweaters… okay let’s check this out. I’m talking about the brand Quince – here’s my full review.
I try not to buy crappy clothes. And by that I mean, I try not to buy poor quality clothes that I’m not going to wear, you can see on my daily workwear #ootds exactly what I wear to work. When selecting these pieces, for the most part, I try to think of how long they are going to last me. Is this skirt going to make it to next year? What about five years? I’ve had some blazers since 2016. Now don’t get me wrong, I will definitely buy tops or dresses in poorer quality and I have been known to give into fast fashion but I try to save that for when I want to incorporate trends into my wardrobe – not staples. So I was intrigued when Quince was advertising they had those staples for way less and that they could do this because they cut out some middleman… questionable, but I’m still scrolling.
Their basic cashmere sweaters are $50 – that price alone is enough to get me to order. I grabbed a cashmere tee, a sweater blazer, a basic black dress, a long silk ‘beachy’ dress that reminded me of my favorite anthro one, a pair of their lauded pants, a long sleeve silk button down, and a basic black silk blouse.
If you want numbers in this review of Quince then here you go: I returned over 50% of my order. I kept the cashmere tee, the silk button down, and the black blouse. Everything else went back. The sizing is all over the place: you could size down two in the sweater blazer, size up in the pants, and depending on your hips up in the dresses. You can see more about my thoughts on the pants in my post: I Tried on 8 Pairs of Work Pants So You Don’t Have To. I’ve worn the cashmere tee twice and filmed in it once and it already has a small hole. Let’s get this straight, I am not what normal people would called ‘hard’ on my clothes but I expect them to hold up to days in the office if you’re marketing it as workwear. The cashmere is soft and thin but it’s almost too thin. I have other cashmere sweaters that don’t have holes in them after years and they’re just as thing. I like the tee but I really wish it had held up better.
To show this Quince review isn’t all negative I will say I love the black silk blouse I purchased. It’s light and I hope will be perfect for Texas spring and maybe into summer. I like the cut of the blouse and it’s probably my favorite purchase of the lot. The cashmere tee would have beat it but it’s not keeping it’s shape and, like I said, already has a hole. Their return policy is awesome; it’s 365 days – incredibly generous, and their customer service is very helpful. I had some issues when I tried to return my items but I emailed the Quince Team and within 4 hours everything was straightened out.
The entire brand feels like fast fashion that tried to remake itself as the laid-back-I-only-wear-neutrals-cool-girl. I need a little more substance, a little more color, and a whole lot more upstairs.
I’d put Quince above H&M for sure, only slightly above Target, but below A&F and Zara. Everything I kept was basics that I hope will last. We shall see… one out of the three already has a hole so I’m not too positive about it.
