Welcome to the 2023 Edit of The Docket’s Workwear Capsule Wardrobe!
When you’re selecting your pieces remember to stick to your budget and allot more of your budget to the pieces that you will wear multiples times. In this case that’s your four suit pieces; and your black and nude heels. You can find these pieces at different price points but my ride or die suits have always been from J Crew. When you find a suit that fits you well, buy the entire four pieces: blazer, skirt, pants, and dress. The blacks will match and having the entire suit gives you so many options.
You should also shop your closet for these items – do you need to buy another white blouse? I mean if it’s beautiful like this one then go ahead, but you probably have a few in your closet that could take the place. Look at this capsule wardrobe as more of a guideline of outfit structuring.
In my 2022 Edit I had 25 items, including shoes and two accessories that I included in your Capsule Wardrobe and my 2021 Edit had 20 items including a bag and shoes. For the 2023 Edit I’m switching it up. This year there are 20 clothing items and the shoes are “extra credit.” The capsule doesn’t require them and it doesn’t change the ‘count’ of outfits. You could wear a pair of black heels for every single outfit and be done. So the shoes that are on the graphic are just suggestions. I look at shoes and any accessories: scarf, belt, etc, you have as things you can always add to the base outfit.
Another thing I’m switching up this year is the color tones I’m adding in. Last year my capsule wardrobe was warm tone based – meaning it had camel, brown, and tan additions. This year is more of a cool tone base – think greys, blues, and white additions. This is only to switch it up. Both of the color schemes work well with black or navy base suits so if you prefer the warm color additions then go warm or if you prefer the cool color additions then go cool!

This year, with the 2023 Edit of the Workwear Capsule Wardrobe you get over 144 outfits – ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTY FOUR! And that’s without changing shoes or adding accessories! That is over SIX MONTHS OF WORK DAY OUTFITS. I’m sorry did I just make your day… or your next six months? Yes, I thought so.
If you’re signed up for my Workwear Capsule Email you get an email each month planning out your outfits for that month using only the Capsule wardrobe components! For each season I will be adding five clothing items to the mix to keep your capsule wardrobe fresh and season appropriate but also small and truly a capsule. I try to keep things affordable and give you options on price points but remember shop your closet for these items too. That’s why I label the top ‘printed top’ because buying a new blouse might not be in the budget but I bet you have a printed top in your closet you could wear right now! You’ll also get to see the seasonal additions before anyone else does so you can get a jump on mixing them into your wardrobe!
