You’ve probably seen my “To Accomplish List” on Instagram – those are things that I need to accomplish like pick up my dry cleaning, make a doctor’s appointment, or drop off at Goodwill. But these 8 things are the ‘other’ that I strive to also do each week. I find when I do these 8 things each week my life feels a little more full and little less stressful.
Each week I try to have a lazy night, this could be a night boneless on the couch watching tv or taking a long bath but one night a week I definitely try to do absolutely nothing and not feel bad about it! I also hope to get in a no makeup day which is usually on the weekend; sometimes that doesn’t happen but on the weekend I try to have as little makeup on as I can. During my commute one day I try to call someone I haven’t spoken to in a while. It’s nice to catch up with an old friend or family member and it makes my commute go so much faster. Another thing I do weekly is to take Winston and Teddy on a walk. It’s been fun to explore our new neighborhood and they love it. Pretty sure they have marked a good square mile around the house now.

Okay here’s one I hate: each week I try to clean the house. Sweep/swifter, vacuum, laundry, wipe down surfaces, and empty the dishwasher. I severely dislike cleaning. TM can keep a house spotless but for me it’s a once a week thing so until he’s in the house permanently (his lease is up in a few months) it’s a few hours job for me that happens about once a week. Usually at the beginning of the week, Sunday or Monday, I make my lunches for the week. If I don’t make them ahead of time I won’t do it each night or in the morning before work.
I also try to meditate each week. Honestly, I don’t know if I ever reach a high plane or whatever but the calming breaths and dedicated time for me to just sit and focus on my breath is awesome. I find it really hard to calm my mind, it races and I think through things I need to do etc, but I go back to repeating my mantra or I do a guided meditation so I can focus on the leader’s voice. After law school I stopped reading for fun because I read so much in school. I had to remind myself to read and remind myself why I liked reading in the first place. Each week I try to read at least one chapter but 99% of the time I don’t stop there. I listen to audiobooks during my commute or when I’m getting ready but I only count the chapter if I read it not listen to it.
