There are a multitude of work shoes that you can style for every work dress code. Heck you even wear the heels outside the office with a pair of jeans right? You might think you need to have a closet full of shoes to finish your work wear outfit but you don’t. You really only need 5 work shoes. Here’s what you should have in your closet.
You’ll never hear me dissuade you from buying shoes… that would be silly. I love shoes, I want that closet full of shoes. Yes, yes, I know you can only wear one pair at a time – whatever. I’m pretty sure I got my love of buying shoes from my aunt because one time she was thinking about buying a pair of heels and another woman started to look at the last pair and my aunt took them straight to the counter commenting “I’m buying these shoes so she can’t.” Que the laughter!
At the bottom of the post you’ll find a code to enter at checkout for $40 or $50 off your purchase!
Let’s look at the 5 Work Shoes You Need
The Classic Everyday Black Heel
These are the shoes you can wear all day long every single day. The heels that aren’t too high and aren’t too low – they’re the perfect height. They don’t pinch and they don’t rub. They’re made for your feet. These are the heels that you could throw on with any outfit and look classic. The black is going to go with your black suit from your capsule wardrobe.
The Live In Loafer
These are the shoes you grab when your feet need a break or you want a more business casual look. You can dress them up or down and it feels like you’ve got slippers on your feet. These are the shoes you pick when you need a break from heels because these will go with anything. Dresses, trousers, skirts, crops, or even work appropriate jeans.
The Forever Leather Flats
These are the shoes that only get better with time. They get more comfortable as the years go on but they hold up and still look work appropriate. They don’t rub on your heels and they’ve got the classic lines so they can pair with pants without cutting off your height. Make sure they’re well made because you’re going to reach for these all the time. You could also add some suede to your leather flats for extra oomph.
The Leg Lengthening Nude Heel
These are the shoes you grab when you’re in a hurry and are wearing a skirt or dress. These nude pumps will go with everything, they are interchangeable with your classic black heel. I tend to go slightly taller in the nude heel because that makes your legs look insanely long. Make sure to pick a color that is in your skin tone for extra long legs!
The Chic Block Heel
These are the shoes that round out your group of 5. These are the pumps that are a twist on the normal – a twist you can wear even in the most strict of business professional dress code workplaces. You could wear these to meet the Queen and she would approve. Go low or high, it’s your choice!
With these staples in your closet you’re ready for every day at work and every workwear outfit you can think of! I thought about adding a colored heel, like a pop of pink, a dash of red, or even a print; but it’s not a pair that every woman needs in her closet. It’s a great addition for sure and one I would encourage. But you’re just starting out or you want a very simple work capsule wardrobe then you can forgo the colored heel.
The heels in the post are either from Ally or Sarah Flint – I was not compensated for this post by either company but I have heels from both companies and I love them. Let me know if you have any questions about either company – the fit or anything else! You can use code THEDOCKET to get $40 off your Ally heels or use code SARAHFLINT-BATHEDOCKETBLOG for $50 off your first pair of Sarah Flint heels.
