Last year I tried to read more, I used to read books upon books in grade school and then law school turned that upside down. One of my goals for this year is to read more than last year and there are some I already have on my list to read on 2021, but before I get there let’s review some of the best books I read in 2020.
(some of the) Best Books I read in 2020
Antagonists, Advocates & Allies, by Catrice M. Jackson – this book served uncomfortable truths and painful realities and was extremely awkward to read. But you know what? I needed to read it and I’m glad I did, you should too.
Conversations with RBG: Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Life, Love, Liberty, and Law, by Jeffrey Rosen – I read this right before RBG died and it was a great book to have read and know about her life and career when all the tributes were rolling in.
Doing Justice: A Prosecutor’s Thoughts on Crime, Punishment, and the Rule of Law, by Preet Bharara – this was such a cool book to read. Bharara was the US Attorney for SDNY and the book is peppered with stories from his tenure.
The Nightingale, by Kristin Hannah – I cried, which I DONT like but it was such a good book, I highly recommend. Also, well researched, it was set in WWII and I never thought ‘historically inaccurate’ which is important for us history nerds.
Untamed, by Glennon Doyle – game changer! I read Doyle’s book out of order, you’ll see I’ve got Love Warrior on my list to read this year. But this book hurt – in a good way.
You Know When the Men are Gone, by Siobhan Fallon – given to me by a colleague this was an eye opening book about true stories of American soldiers and their families. Since TM is former military and I work with military members and spouses this was a read that opened my eyes.
The Heir Affair, by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan – this was the sequel to The Royal We and it was everything I ever wanted. Think William & Kate mixed with Harry & Meg with a dash of WTF.
It’s Not Supposed to Be this Way: Finding Unexpected Strength When Disappointments Leave You Shattered, by Lysa TerKeurst – this book was given to me by a former colleague when I was leaving my old office due to some pretty bad shit. This book was a lovely heartfelt gift that really helped me grieve and find some positive points.
The Truths We Hold, by Kamala Harris- I read this early in 2020 and I loved it. I know it’s a usual thing when people run for office to write a book but I’m so glad I read this.
