Over the years my planner has migrated to an online calendar, I move things around so much or have so many hearings/trials/settings on one day that there’s not enough space in a traditional planner for all of that. Instead I keep a notebook that I keep everything in. Here’s why I recommend keeping a notebook with you: for work and life.

While I use a weekly planner printable and daily planner printable when I need to be able to see everything for that week/day my notebook is really what I rely on. Here’s the notebook I currently use but it’s running out of space so I just bought another one that I’m excited to use! There are a few different things I keep in my notebook:
Meeting Notes (Work)
All of my meeting notes are in this notebook. It usually ends in my adding things to my to do list but it’s also a great way to interact during meetings and with your co-workers because guess who probably doesn’t listen during meetings so they’re going to come ask you to recap because you took notes. When you have one on one meetings with your supervisor you can keep all the feedback you get written in the notebook too!
To-Do Lists (Work & Personal)
This is the part of my notebook that gets used most often. I write things down, I cross things off, and I can look back and make sure I’ve done what I need to do. I just take a new page and write a new list when I reach the end of the page it’s currently on. I’m sure if my future grandkids ever find these notebooks they’re going to think ‘wow grandma really liked lists…’ : )
Questions (Work)
During my day I like to write down questions that I need answered or want to ask particular people. When I get an answer I also note in the notebook because it helps me remember when I write down things and I might be getting old because sometimes I swear I never got the answer but I apparently did…
Goals (Work & Personal)
I keep a running goal page for both my career and for personal life. It helps me to have my goals written down and in front of me all the thing. I can tweak or add to the list whenever I need to.
Extra: I tape in a print out of anything administrative I need to know or remember. I also stick in those daily and weekly printables.
If physical planners aren’t your thing but you still want to be able to have one contained spot for your notes etc then try keeping a notebook. Try keeping a tab in those particular spots you want to refer to often: admin information, goals, and the current to-do list.
When I was moving it was also awesome to have this notebook because I was able to take notes for everything I completed off my to do list. For example: when I had to switch off different utilities I was able to have all my notes in the notebook. I kept track of when I called, who I spoke to, just in case I ever had any issues I had all of that information at hand.
