We had a few days last month in Texas where I could actually bust out my favorite tights and coats for winter. I took the opportunity and ran with it. Then Texas decided to go back into the 80s and I had to grab my shorts again.
Cooler temperatures always have me reminiscing on the year I lived in Minnesota and how I got to live all my layering dreams. *Sigh* Most of my coats are packed (gotta love still living with the parents – yes it’s been over a year and yes I’m slowly going insane) so I’ve been trying to remember what I own so I don’t double purchase things I already own.
My favorite coats for winter
The Tan Overcoat
Probably one of my favorite coats to wear (also a favorite of royalty – swipe to see). I’ve had mine for years from ASOS but I love the lines on this one and if you’re looking for affordable, this is your best bet.
The Animal Print
While leopard is something I usually veer away from, there’s something about an animal print coat that says HELLO I’M HERE! I borrow the one I’m wearing from my mom anytime I need a little something something to my cold weather wardrobe but this is a pretty good ringer for it. However this one has a whiter color (rather than tan) to it and I love it. The price tag on it isn’t something that’s in my budget but if it’s in yours then I need pictures.
The Splash of Color
Coats that are bright spots of color are my favorite in the winter. They look so good against a snowy backdrop and they definitely make dreary days of ice and slush a little better. My mom and I took our Christmas cards in these coats (red & green) two years ago. There are only two color choices in those now so here’s another option with more color choices. However, for my money I say GO WITH THIS ONE for the most shock and awe value.
The Neutrals
Give me a solid grey or black coats and I will own it for years. This grey one is under $50 and since it’s a wrap if can go over thick sweaters or will work if you’re pregnant. This is also a good belted option but with buttons too. Here’s a wool maxi that is GORG… seriously GORG. This velvet trimmed one is *chef’s kiss*
The Cape
Eat your heart out Blair Waldorf. Toss on a pair of tights and a headband with one of these capes and they might casts you in the reboot of Gossip Girl. I found this green cape from ASOS a couple years ago so it’s not available but check out this one with the chicest collar. This one is possibly perfect and is it just me or could you see Kate Middleton in this? I’ll use this one when I’m just leaving the house to get the mail or go on a coffee run and I could see this one tossed over a white blouse with booties.
The Puffer
This north face long puffer was the first coat I purchased when I moved to Minnesota and it has served me well throughout the years. I love tossing on a short puffer over jeans. on my way to the gym, or out for a walk for an easy way to keep warm. This puffer comes in tall and petite sizes and is super affordable and this one has over 12 THOUSAND positive reviews or this one that you can belt – be still my heart.
