Tweed suits have lasted the test of time. Some of smart and fashion forward women have worn tweed suits: Jackie Kennedy, Kate Middleton, Amal Clooney, Princess Diana, Coco Channel, Brigitte Bardot, and Barbara Walters. In male dominated workplaces tweed suits sometimes get a bad rap for being too girly or feminine. But I love embracing that femininity. I definitely recommend tweed suits at the office! Wear your tweed suit like the bad*ss woman you are! If that is a major concern for you however, you can always veer towards tweed suits in darker colors and skip the brighter pink family colors.
Even in the Texas summer, when linen suits are an obvious choice, tweed is in my workwear rotation. This suit is a light tweed so it’s not going to weigh you down in 90 degrees. Tweed wears extremely well, it doesn’t show wrinkles or sweat stains, and you can do so much with each piece of the suit. They give you options, which is always nice. Don’t be afraid to pair the pieces with sweaters or mix up the jacket with pants. You can always mix tweeds for a chic look.
Here are a few tweed pieces you should consider for your closet:
The skirt of this suit is an A line so it’s super flattering and comfortable. Since it’s a little shorter than my usual skirts (read: it’s above my knee by a good bit) I didn’t add tall heels but kept my choice to these low black heels that I love. I’ve got long legs, I’m 5’9.5″ and adding another three to four inches when I’ve got a skirt way above my knee really isn’t the best option for a courtroom. Plus these heels are crazy comfortable.
The jacket doesn’t have any buttons, so it’s meant to be worn open. I paired it with a cobalt blue shell because in the weave of this tweed there is a cobalt thread running through it. It would also look great with a pink, emerald green, or classic white. Basically, the takeaway should be tweed suits at the office are a no brainer!
