I’m not saying you didn’t plan but just in case I’ve got some last minute valentine’s day dates that don’t suck for you.
Look it’s already less than a week away from V-day so if you haven’t made a dinner reservation for Valentine’s day yet you’re probably SOL. But don’t worry I’ve got a few ideas for you (or for you to send to your SO) so your Valentine’s date doesn’t look like my valentine’s date from hell.
One year my (ex)boyfriend was telling me all about the restaurant we were going for dinner, he was talking it up big time and I was excited; we got all dressed up, drive to the restaurant, walk up, he asks the hostess for a table and she tells us there’s a 3 hour wait. I look at him and he is so confused as to why the wait would be that long and I’m standing there asking wait you didn’t make a reservation?!?!?! He was completely oblivious as to why he would need to make a reservation… for a date… on VALENTINE’S DAY. Ugh boys. So we left and that’s how I became the most dressed up person at a Five Guys. I also think the phrase well I thought about getting you a gift but I was really busy was said to me at some point that night. Oh and he got a speeding ticket on the way to dinner. Worst. Valentine’s. Ever.
MORAL OF THE STORY – you either start early (like January with a reservation and ordering flowers – from here FYI, trust me boys) or you get creative. Since it’s February and Farm Girl isn’t taking any more orders for Vday you’re going with creative.
Head to a museum or gallery in your city. Not only does this scream HELLO I’M SOPHISTICATED it’s also a nice change of place for a date. If you’re new to each other you can talk in these places and get to know each other better or if you’re old hats then it’s a fun place to check out your city or get some culture.
You might still be able to sign up last minute for one at a legitimate place OR you can find one for free online and just make sure you have all the ingredients for Friday! Add a cute apron and a bottle of wine and you’re set! The free cooking classes I found were from the BBC, the New York Times, and my alma mater Texas A&M!
Cook a great meal at home and then go to a bakery or ice cream place. These places are empty, except for those other creative people, and it’s also waaaay cheaper. Plus everybody is happy after dessert, right?
A play, a comedy show, or anything else. Sometimes local theaters will do love themed plays or comedy clubs do a valentine’s day date treat. (For all my Austin friends, Esther’s Follies has two shows on Friday
Take the morning off work/take a sick day and the both of you go to a big lazy breakfast/brunch. Booze it up if you’re skipping work but either way eat a chocolate chip pancake for me. No lines for breakfast on Friday morning and it’s still really special.
So if you’ve got zero plans or are just feeling peckish for dessert let me know if you try any of these! These Valentine’s Day dates are sure to please! If you want to wear pink to work on Friday check out this post about keeping it work appropriate.
