After being stuck at home and not headed into the office for the most of 2020 I was letting my hair go longer without washing and definitely not using products on it as much. My hair got a break while I did too. But since I’ve been back in the office and now trials are starting back up I’m going to be in public more often.
That means I need to get my hair game back under control. You wouldn’t believe the shade jurors throw at you if there’s anything out of place – I’ve gotten told I looked like a lady of the night because I wore red nail polish… no joke and no more red nail polish during trial for me.
I have long and thick hair; I mean really long and really thick hair. If I make a hair appointment I always tell them to double the amount of time they think. It’s consistently 10 degrees warmer on my neck than the air around, we joke that if your hands are cold in the winter you can just put them on my neck. My hair frizzes and I have those little baby flyaways at my crown that cause me trouble. My hair is naturally wavy, think a mix of 2a and 2b, so I usually need to choose if I’m going naturally wavy or blow dry styled after a shower.
Here are 6 new hair products I’ve been trying out
No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream
This styling cream now has a permanent place in my beauty cabinet. I had shied away from the entire line for the most stupid reason – why would you call it frizz? I mean give it a less on the nose name! Whatever. My hair was worse off for my stupid reasoning. Now I flipping love this styling cream. It’s a little weird for me to use more than I think, it tells you to saturate your strands, but it works and if it helps me cut down on frizz then I will always have a stock on hand.
Ouai Super Dry Shampoo
I jsut picked this dry shampoo up at the Nordstrom Sale because I wanted to give it a run against the other dry shampoos I like. I’ve used this three times so far and I’ve loved it each time. It doesn’t feel gritty ever which is a major pro but it can come out white if you don’t shake it well enough. For blondes this won’t be bad but I have to massage it in if I forget since I’m a brunette.
Kristin Ess Weightless Shine Working Serum
I picked this up at Target and it’s been working great so far. I tried using it on damp hair before drying and styling but it wasn’t giving me a great result. On the back of the bottle it also says you can use it after you’ve dried your hair to decrease “puffiness” and I liked that result better!
Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat & UV Protective Primer
Since I’ve been using heat on my hair more than usual lately I knew I needed to get a primer back on my hair. I love Bumble & Bumble so I picked this one. I have zero complaints. It doesn’t weigh my hair down, it doesn’t make it greasy, and I haven’t noticed my hair getting worse after using so much heat… that makes it a winner right?
Oribe Impermeable Anti-Humidity Hair Spray
This spray alleges to keep humidity at bay AND holds your style. Is it a great hold – it’s a light hold for sure. Does it keep frizz at bay – ummm maybe? I want to like this product. I really want to like this product. I think I’m going to hold out hope and keep trying it out in different ways to see if I can get it to do what I want. Good thing Texas will serve up more humidity for me to test it out!
Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray
This is a major find! The back of the bottle says it best – it’s like dry shampoo and hair spray had a baby. It’s awesome! I spray it on each piece/section of hair before I curl it and the curls stay alllllllll day. It also gives second day hair a little more oomph when you tease the roots. Do yourself a favor and grab a bottle of this.
Here’s the new hair products I’ve just ordered:
Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil 72 Hour Hydrating Hair Mask
I’m a sucker for a new hair (or face) mask so I grabbed this one by one of my go to brands.
Living Proof Style Lab Flex Hairspray
I love my usual hairspray, it’s Aveda, it’s a light hold but I’ve been looking for one with a stronger hold so I grabbed this one to try. It’s got good reviews, we’ll see!
Fable & Mane HoliRoots Pre-wash Hair Treatment Oil
I randomly found this on the Sephora website and I admit I’m intrigued. It has over 40k hearts and I love anything that can make my hair stronger.
Kérastase Curl Manifesto Curl Refreshing & Restyling Spray
Adding something new to my curl hair care line up is something I’ve been looking for. I hate the crunch you usually get with curl/wave spray so I’m excited to see if this is going to give me some definition without the crunch.
Picking products for me has always been about a meeting of price and result. If a product works well for me I will pay it but if it doesn’t then it doesn’t matter how much everyone else loves it I won’t use it again. Or I will repurpose it. For example: I love how Moroccan Oil smells and I love how soft it makes your hair but it makes my hair look greasy. So now, when I go to the pool or the beach I comb it through my hair for the day. It soaks in my hair and makes it incredibly soft, plus it keeps chlorine from seeping in to my hair. I bounce between the oil, or coconut oil, or a hair mask. Try it next time!
Let me know if you’ve tried any of these new hair products or you’re looking for any new hair products yourself!
